Operation AXIOM: The World War
5-6 December 1916: H. H. Asquith resigned as prime minister of the United Kingdom, succeeded the next day by David Lloyd George, who had been War Secretary since June 1916, succeeding Lord Kitchener upon the latter's death in the sinking of H.M.S. Hampshire; Lloyd George would lead the British Empire through the end of the war & into the peace, remaining at 10 Downing Street 'til 1922.
