Operation AXIOM: After the World War
2-13 July 1919: The Flights of the R34—The British Royal Air Force rigid dirigible R34 completed the first east-to-west trans-Atlantic flight (2-6 July, one hundred eight hours) from East Fortune, Scotland to Mineola, New York & then the first return trans-Atlantic flight (10-13 July, seventy-five hours); the outbound flight carried two stowaways: a crewman meant to be left behind to save weight & his cat.
