The presentation of Jesus in the temple is in fulfillment with the Jewish law. Every male child must be taken to the temple & an animal must be offered as a sacrifice. That is why (Saint) Joseph is usually depicted in this scene holding a cage & two doves.Had 1 February not been a Sunday, we would have remembered Saint Brigid of Kildare (c. 454-c. 524), one of the three patron saints of Ireland: Saint-link Unus, Saint-link Duo, & Wikipedia-link.
