Commentary: Quoth the bulletin:

He joined the monks at Fort-Avellano, then in the greatest repute, & by his wisdom & sanctity rose to be Superior. He was employed on the most delicate & difficult missions, amongst other the reform of ecclesiastical communities, which was effected by his zeal. Seven Popes in succession made him their constant adviser, & he was at last created Cardinal Bishop of Ostia.

If memory serves, "Peter Damian" is one of the aliases used by Simon Templar (played by Val Kilmer) in the 1997 motion picture The Saint.
