"Kitchener's Army," formally the New Army—the initially all-volunteer force raised to take the place of the "Old Contemptibles," the original British Expeditionary Force that had been all-but-annihilated by the First Battle of Ypres (№ CDXX); six divisions had been raised by August 1914, twenty-nine by March 1915; composed in part of the heartbreaking "Pals battalions."
Lest we forget.
Commentary: I'm of two minds about cross-referencing episodes of "The Explorers' Club." On the one hand, the benefits are obvious, especially as our observance of the Great War's centenary continues. On the other hand, there is the very real danger of disappearing down the rabbit hole. As evinced by this episode, at present I believe the potential benefits outweigh the potential costs.
