St. Blaise's protection of those with throat troubles apparently comes from a legend that a boy was brought to him who had a fishbone stuck in his throat. I have repeatedly seen around town a Jeep Cherokee with the vanity license plate IM THE1, which I read as "I'm the One." "The One" what is unclear. There are no bumper stickers to indicate the motorist's interests or preferences. The "Great One"? No, that's Wayne Gretzky. The "One" from The Matrix? No, that's Thomas "Neo" Anderson. The "One We've Been Waiting For"? No, that's President Obama, at least according to Candidate Obama in '08. IM THE1 remains a mystery, one I suspect I shall continue to confront outside of Saint Matthew Catholic Church, where I sometimes go for the lunchtime Mass.
