Today we remember Saint Oswald of Worcester, O.S.B. (d. 992), archbishop: Saint-link ūnus, Saint-link duo, & Wikipedia-link.
Scripture of the Day
Personal Reading
The Gospel according to Luke, chapter twenty-two, verses forty-three & forty-four;
The Book of Numbers, chapter twenty-one, verses one thru nine;
The Book of Numbers, chapter twenty-five, verses one thru eighteen*;
The Second Book of Kings, chapter eighteen, verses one thru twelve;
The Book of Deuteronomy, chapter twenty-seven, verses fourteen thru twenty-six.
Commentary: I read all of Numbers, 25, as it is presented in my Bible, but there is a nineteenth verse placed immediately before 26:1 with an explanatory note, "This is the last verse of Ch 25." I would have to agree that 25:19 serves the narrative better after the chapter break than it would if situated before.
Mass Readings
The Book of Deuteronomy, chapter twenty-six, verses sixteen thru nineteen;
Psalm One Hundred Nineteen, verses one & two, four & five, seven & eight;
The Gospel according to Matthew, chapter five, verses forty-three thru forty-eight.
Commentary: I generally prefer to read the whole of each day's Psalm, not just the Mass verses, but I shall make an exception in the case of Psalm 119, "the longest by far in the psalter" according to my Bible's footnotes.
