The James Webb Space Telescope (J.W.S.T.), originally planned for a 2007 launch, has lifted off from French Guiana's Centre Spatial Guyanais ("Guiana Space Centre") aboard an Ariane 5 rocket: Spaceflight Now-link. The J.W.S.T. is an incredibly complex & astonishingly ambitious observatory, with over three-hundred potential single-point failures. The full deployment/unfolding of the observatory—the innovative Sunshield & the multifaceted Optical Telescope Element—will occur over the next month: N.A.S.A.-link. This is a very exciting time, but also quite nerve-racking.
Godspeed, James Webb Space Telescope!Bonus! Song o' the Day: James Webb Space Telescope
