The Queue

Jonesing for more of the Fraction & Aja magic from The Immortal Iron Fist, I decided to check out their run on Hawkeye. I had to wait for the Volume 1 hardcover (also available as two paperbacks, My Life As a Weapon & Little Hits, volumes one & two in the series listed below) to become available from a distant branch of the Genesee District Library, so in the meantime I borrowed two collections from the later Lemire & Pérez run. I won't ever feel any need to read anything else by that particular pairing, a dreadful indulgence in decompressed storytelling where a paper-thin plot was interminably spread out over an indefensible eleven issues. Yes, the flashbacks to young Clint Barton's life were beautifully illustrated, but I'd have been royally irked by the waste of time & money if I'd purchased those tales as individual comic-book issues. Back to Fraction & Aja, their Hawkeye is interesting & innovative, but does not succeed in scratching the Immortal Iron Fist itch. I suppose Thomas Wolfe was right: You can't go home again.
