Project BLACK MAMBA

Today is the optional memorial of Saint Blaise, Bishop & Martyr (d. c. 316), one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers: Martyr-link Unus, Martyr-link Duo, & Wikipedia-link Blaise; Wikipedia-link Holy Helpers.

Commentary: Quoth the bulletin:
St. Blaise's protection of those with throat troubles apparently comes from a legend that a boy was brought to him who had a fishbone stuck in his throat. The boy was about to die when St. Blaise healed him.
Today is the optional memorial of Saint Ansgar, Bishop, O.S.B. (801-865): Saint-link Unus, Saint-link Duo, & Wikipedia-link.

Commentary: Quoth the bulletin:
St. Ansgar is called "the Apostle of the North" & (was) the first Christian missionary in Scandinavia. His success was due to his great preaching ability, the austerity & holiness of his life, & the miracles he performed.
Scripture of the Day
Personal Reading
The Second Letter to Timothy, chapter one (of four).

Mass Readings
The Letter to the Hebrews, chapter twelve, verses one thru four;
Psalm Twenty-two, verses twenty-six(B) thru twenty-eight, thirty thru thirty-two;
The Gospel according to Mark, chapter five, verses twenty-one thru forty-three.

Autobahn
I have repeatedly seen around town a Jeep Cherokee with the vanity license plate IM THE1, which I read as "I'm the One." "The One" what is unclear. There are no bumper stickers to indicate the motorist's interests or preferences. The "Great One"? No, that's Wayne Gretzky. The "One" from The Matrix? No, that's Thomas "Neo" Anderson. The "One We've Been Waiting For"? No, that's President Obama, at least according to Candidate Obama in '08. IM THE1 remains a mystery, one I suspect I shall continue to confront outside of Saint Matthew Catholic Church, where I sometimes go for the lunchtime Mass.
