Project BLACK MAMBA

'Tis the Memorial of Saint John Chrysostom, Bishop & Doctor of the Church (circa 344-407): Doctor-link ūnus, Doctor-link duo, Doctor-link trēs, & Wikipedia-link.

Commentary: Wayback Machine '14 & Wayback Machine '15. Quoth the Holy Redeemer bulletin:
He is known for his preaching & public speaking, his denunciation of abuse of authority by both ecclesiastical & political leaders, the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, & his ascetic sensibilities.
Quoth the Holy Family bulletin:
The ambiguity & intrigue surrounding John, the great preacher (his name means "golden-mouthed") from Antioch, was characteristic of the life of any great man in a capital city. Brought to Constantinople after a dozen years of priestly service in Syria, John found himself the reluctant victim of an imperial ruse to make him bishop in the greatest city of the empire. Ascetic, unimposing but dignified, & troubled by stomach ailments from his desert days as a monk, John became bishop under the cloud of imperial politics.
'Tis also the feast of Saint Venerius the Hermit, Abbot (seventh century): Saint-link ūnus, Saint-link duo, & Wikipedia-link.
