Commentary: Wayback Machine '14 & Wayback Machine '15. Quoth the Holy Redeemer bulletin:
He was a Spanish Jesuit priest & missionary born in Verdú (Catalonia) who, due to his life & work, became the patron saint of slaves, the Republic of Colombia, & ministry to African-Americans. During the forty years of his ministry in Colombia it is estimated he personally baptized around three hundred thousand (3000,000) [persons]. He is also patron saint for seafarers. He is considered a heroic example of what should be the Christian praxis of love & the exercise of human rights.I give a really good speech about St. Peter Claver, from my Cursillo Rollo, though I could adapt it to pretty much any setting. We could all stand to be a little more like St. Peter Claver, & what a world that would result!
'Tis also the feast of Blessed Antoine-Frédéric Ozanam (1813-1853), co-founder of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul: Blessed-link ūnus, Blessed-link duo, & Wikipedia-link; Wikipedia-link S.S.V.P.
