Section 31: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993-2024)

Episode o' the Day
"Defiant" (season three, episode nine; 21 November 1994): Wikipedia-link.

Commentary: "Defiant" marks the return of Thomas Riker (played by Jonathan Frakes), the transporter duplicate of William Riker introduced on The Next Generation ("Second Chances"). To my chagrin, there would be no later third appearance of Tom Riker.

Following up from our discussion of "Second Skin," "Defiant" furthers the growing rift amongst the Cardassians between the Central Command & the Obsidian Order, revealing a secret, illegal military initiative by the Obsidian Order that will reach its full fruit in "Improbable Cause" & "The Die Is Cast." There are some great characters moments between Commander Sisko & Gul Dukat, fathers both, with Dukat cast in a favorable light compared to the Obsidian Order observer, Korinas (played by Tricia O'Neil, who also played a pair of guest roles on
The Next Generation, including Captain Rachel Garrett, captain of the doomed U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-C in "Yesterday's Enterprise").
