26 April 1915: The London Pact—Italy entered the war, first secretly & then openly quitting the Triple Alliance (the Central Powers, including the Ottoman Empire, & soon to be joined by Bulgaria as the Quadruple Alliance, Vierbund) & joining the Triple Entente (the Entente Powers, later formally the Allied Powers).
