The Rebel Black Dot Song o' the Day: SKAugust
Save Ferris, "Golden Silence" from the Checkered Past E.P. (The Last Angry Rude Boy)
Skammentary: The latest post-Exodus 90 "Day 91" exercise is titled "Progeny Point" & one of its disciplines is to "abstain from noise." One Exodus 90 discipline was to abstain from music except that which "lifted the mind to God." In response, I, like many other Exodus Men, increased the number of podcasts to which I listen. Methinks the abstinence from noise is a reaction to this unintended consequence of the limitation on music. The thing is, all but one of the podcasts to which I listen are explicitly Catholic, dedicated to faith formation & building up the Church; the one exception is a secular anti-pornography podcast from Fight the New Drug. I'm so far failing to see how abstaining from this content is supposed to draw me closer to our Lord. I understand & appreciate the need for more silence amidst our culture of distraction & I have built in periods of silence into my everyday routine,. To this point in Progeny Point, though, the additional silence is proving an active irritant, an obstacle.
I was very up front with the brothers in my Exodus fraternity: I was willing to let Exodus 90 compromise SKApril, but I would not allow Progeny Point to interfere with SKAugust.
